full-day tour to Alexandria

Full-day tour, approximately 8-10 hours, Transfer from Cairo for a 3-hour car trip to Alexandria.

Start on a full day sightseeing of Alexandria. You will stop at the newly built Library of Alexandria, one of modern architecture’s greatest marvels.

it was one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world. Maybe Demetrius of Phalerum, an exiled Athenian leader in Alexandria, told Ptolemy I Soter to make a universal library. Ptolemy I had some ideas for the Library, but his son Ptolemy II Philadelphus built it as part of the Mouseion, a bigger research center.. The Mouseion was dedicated to the Muses, the nine goddesses of the arts.
. The Library quickly acquired many papyrus scrolls, owing largely to the Ptolemaic kings’ aggressive and well-funded policies for procuring texts. No one knows exactly how many scrolls the library contained at its peak, but some guess it was between 40,000 and 400,000.

Also, visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shuqafa where the tombs are distinctly Romanesque but the sculpture and reliefs are the Egyptian gods.

The necropolis consists of a series of Alexandrian tombs, statues, and archaeological objects of the Pharaonic funerary cult with Hellenistic and early Imperial Roman influences. Due to the time period, many of the features of the catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa merge Roman, Greek, and Egyptian cultural points; some statues are Egyptian in style, yet bear Roman clothes and hair style whilst other features share a similar style.During the age of the Antonine emperors (2nd century AD), workers tunneled tombs into the bedrock. A circular staircase leads down into these tombs. People often used this staircase to carry deceased bodies down the middle of it.. Return in the evening to Cairo.

Full day tour is approximately 8-10 hours, and cost start from 120$
